Steve & April's Big Adventure

In August 2006 we began our new life as people without a home, without jobs and without a schedule. We are traveling around the United States in our 1965 Airstream travel trailer.

Chihuly at Cheekwood

Steve and I visited the Chihuly at Cheekwood installation of glass sculptures this week. Cheekwood is a beautiful place to visit anytime, but the Chihuly exhibit is fascinating.

Goodbye, Dear Katie

This month we lost our sweet dog, Katie. She's actually been in foster care with my parents in Albuquerque for four years. They would say she absolutely was not ours anymore and they are truly having a very hard time with her absence. This is Steve and Katie when we first got her at 7 weeks and 15 pounds.
You can see how there's no way I could resist her when she came bounding out of the house I'd visited with my friend, Nancy, to get a puppy for her son. Nancy and I wanted to call her Princess, but Steve insisted she have a "real name" so he chose Katie, saying as she aged we would call her Kate, then Katherine. (that never happened)
Steve and Katie spent 8 years in a constant battle of wills regarding the dog staying in the yard. Every few months we would be revising the strategy and Katie always prevailed. She never had that challenge with my parents, though, and in 4 years never ran away from her new home on Pablo Court.

Katie was always the life of every party we had and there is a long list of people who can say they have chased her through the neighborhood trying to get her to return home. She definitely heard "the call of the wild." There was a time when we felt she was trying to tell us that she actually lived next door and that we were the ones holding her hostage from her real family, because each morning they would find her outside their door at 6am.
